The West Seattle Kitchen is a renovation of an existing post-war house in and kitchen. The existing kitchen was a closed off kitchen and eating area, typical of the 1950’s when the home was built. The original finishes and layout remained intact, necessitating an intervention to adapt to the new owners lifestyle.

As part of the overall renovation of the home, the existing kitchen was removed, along with two walls enclosing the kitchen opening up the kitchen to the living room. A galley configuration with an integrated island and wall paneling allowed for maximum counter space and storage throughout. Large format tile and a glass backsplash minimized the grout joints while providing a lighter palette for the kitchen. The original oak floors were refinished to brighten the whole space and new window openings were added to bring more natural light into the main level of the home.

Utilizing clean, minimal, and natural finishes, we were able to create a symbiosis with the existing floors of the home, while creating a new intervention into the space, changing the character of the main level.
