M+T AD is a boutique architecture firm with offices in Charlottesville, Virginia and Seattle, Washington led by founders Andrew Montgomery and Steven Townsend.  Andrew and Steven met in architecture school at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. As a result of spending countless hours together in studio and studying abroad in Switzerland, together they refined their common design aesthetic. After almost eight years of working independently at different boutique firms where they gained valuable experience, Andrew and Steven jumped on the opportunity to join forces and create MTAD. 


Andrew Montgomery, Founder

Andrew received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. After graduating, he worked as an associate in a small boutique firm with projects in the UK and across the US. As project manager, he has coordinated both design and construction on a wide range of projects from furniture design to a million square foot redevelopment plans. He also founded his own furniture design studio. His work as won awards from Design Within Reach and Bernhardt Design. He also displayed his furniture at the 2010 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC and the pieces were then featured in Wallpaper and Intramuros Magazines.



Steven Townsend, Founder

Steven received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and his Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a licensed architect in Washington, New York, and Virginia. Steven has managed the design and execution of projects ranging from bespoke residences to mixed-use and hospitality developments upwards of one million square feet. He managed the Workshop Kitchen & Bar project that received the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant Design. His work has been featured in publications including Architectural Record, Mark, and Interiors and Sources.
